New Orleans Style Garden Decor
The day after Hurricane Katrina hit I was wide-eyed in shock, along with the rest of the world, as I watched the city of New Orleans fill with
flood waters in August, 2005. I was devastated to think my beloved French Quarter, the stately homes in the Garden District, and other
historic sites like the Cabildo (the site of the Louisiana Purchase transfer that doubled the size of the United States), might be destroyed.
I was a resident in the French Quarter during Hurricane Betsy, a category 4 storm of many years before, and remember all too well its
onslaught. Hurricanes are dangerous, howling nightmares that seem to never end, but out of my innocence I stayed. I stayed, and
having survived that one, will probably always wonder if I would have left this time when evacuation orders were announced for Katrina.
Being a former resident, I was well aware of the “bowl effect” that the news anchormen spoke of, and now the unimaginable nightmare of that
dreaded prediction was coming true right before our eyes. As I watched, fond memories of those earlier days spent in my French Quarter
apartment flooded me as I witnessed in dismay that graceful lady of a city being flooded. (more about my French Quarter courtyard and fountain here)
In the following weeks this website was created out of an open and loving heart as more and more of the devastation
and destruction was revealed throughout the aftermath of that fateful storm. Thankfully many of the much loved, older areas of New
Orleans were spared, but I wanted all of her to be remembered in a beautiful way—in the elegance of New Orleans style garden decor.
This website is dedicated to everyone who has ever lived in, visited, or seen photos of this stately city, and would like to create
a place of serenity and gentility in your garden reminiscent of the grace of those lovely French Quarter courtyards adorned with flowing
fountains, and quieter, more elegant days gone by.
If you want just the perfect outdoor garden accent, we have it.
